MANILA -- Filipino-American MMA fighter Brandon “The Truth” Vera said he would need to outdo himself to match his idol Randy Couture in what he calls the “biggest fight” of his life.

“I got to give more, more than ever before, more than 100 percent, more than 101 percent,” said “The Truth” about his UFC match up with “The Natural” on Saturday.

The Couture-Vera match up in the 205-pound division is the main event in UFC 105 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.

The 32-year-old Vera said he was taking a rest from his successful match against Krzysztof Soszynski in UFC 102 when he received a call from his manager about the Couture fight.

“It sounds like tripping. I just finished fighting and I don't want to jump back to training camp. Then my manager said: ‘you're fighting Randy Couture’,” said Vera with a bewildered expression.

“You can’t say no to fighting Randy Couture, you know... you can't,” he added.

Vera, who has already collected 11 wins in 14 professional fights, said he considers the match as a big opportunity to prove his worth against the man who has inspired him to try MMA.

“This is my most important fight just because I get to prove to people around the world that I'm one of the top dogs in the world. It's a big fight... big, big fight,” he said.

“People always wanted to know what Brandon Vera's at his full potential would look like,” Vera said. “I tell you, me fighting Randy Couture, he's gonna bring out every ounce of everything I got.”

The 46-year-old Couture boasts of a status as one of the living legends of MMA.

Couture, who has compiled 16 wins out of 26 fights, said he will have to force Vera to adjust against his fighting style.

“Wrestling is still the basis of my fighting style,” he said. “Definitely, this camp with Brandon, I need Brandon to wrestle me.”

He is aware of Vera’s ability to strike from a distance, stressing his need to “close the gap” with the younger fighter.

“I'll use the striking I've learned to figure out how to protect myself, close the distance and get my hands on him and make him wrestle me for the whole fight,” said The Natural.
