MANILA, Philippines – Strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza is satisfied with what he is seeing so far in Filipino fight king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, who is currently training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Speaking with Ronnie Nathanielsz of PhilBoxing, Ariza said Pacquiao was “amazing” in his sixth day of sparring.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give him a 10 but I hate doing that, because I don’t want to set myself up since I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next two weeks,” Ariza said.

Pacquiao is currently preparing for his fourth fight with his greatest rival, Juan Manuel Marquez, on December 8 in Las Vegas.

Ariza also stressed that he is seeing a “different Manny” as the Los Angeles leg of their training camp enters it second week.

“Right now, I see a Manny Pacquiao who says he wants to be the old Manny Pacquiao,” he said. “We’ve seen in the old Manny the resiliency, we got somebody who tries to hurt people when he hits them.”

Ariza also told Nathanielsz that assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez deserves credit for training Pacquiao whenever Freddie Roach is not there.

“He’s pushing himself, he’s making Manny work on his speed. I’m seeing a whole different Pacquiao. It’s like the old times, when we were gutting it out,” he said.

But in a separate interview with Examiner, Ariza also pointed out that they still have a long way to go.

“It’s almost redundant, me saying, ‘It’s a great camp, everything’s going well.’ But it’s still early, talk to me in a few weeks,” Ariza said.
