Clinton: 'Of course, Pacman will win!'

MANILA - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton believes Philippine boxing champion Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao will beat Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in their match on Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).

Responding to a question from former Ateneo de Manila University college basketball star Chris Tiu at an ANC forum in UST on who she thinks will win the bout, Clinton said: "Of course, the Pacman is going to win!"

Tiu also asked Clinton what her favorite NBA basketball team is, and she said that she was a fan of Chicago, where she was born and raised, and New York, which she used to represent in the US Senate.

"I have heard that basketball and boxing are pretty big here in the Philippines so for basketball, I have followed 2 teams. I'm originally from Chicago. That's where I was born and raised, so I followed the Chicago Bulls, particularly when Michael Jordan was there."

"Then I was a Senator from New York so I followed the Knicks. But that's kind of discouraging. I follow it, but it's hard to get as enthusiastic as I would like to," she added.

She expressed hope that New York would be able to recruit Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James so it would become a better team.

"Now, the Knicks are trying maybe to get LeBron James. That would make it very exciting in New York, so I'll watch that. I'm not sure exactly what will happen."

Clinton is in Manila for November 12-13 visit before going to Singapore for the APEC summit.

first question

Everyone keeps on forgetting that these were not Chris' only questions. His first question was "How can the youth engage in the fight against poverty?"

The other 2 are just follow up questions.

irrelevant question! clinton

irrelevant question! clinton is in asia for more important issues like security and trade for whole asia! do you think she cares about the pac-cotto fight?

Would It Really Matter?

Bulls or Knicks, Pacquiao or Cotto. What now, Chris?

Well, I can only commend that proud Atenean who must have asked the most important questions of his life. And being responded by no less than the second most powerful man on earth (as some journalists would put it), I can only guess that he will then become exponentially famous in no days.

So, good luck on your rise, Chris! The Philippines is so proud of you.

Btw, did it ever occur to you that you must have missed to ask whether she can meddle with her influence (ala Philippine style) to bring LeBron James to the Knicks? Common' Chris, she was already there..!

Each fool is articulate, period!

Cotto is possible to win

Clinton's answer was Manny Pacquiao because she is in the Philippines and just got a deal with Malacanang. It could be possible she will say "Of course, Miguel Cotto will win" if she's in Puerto Rico.
