Pacquiao tells doubters: Not every victory lopsided
MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao defended Monday his controversial majority decision win over Mexican challenger Juan Manuel Marquez, saying not every victory in the ring will be easy.
"Siguro nasanay lang siguro ang ibang kababayan natin na laging panalo na one-sided. Siyempre hindi naman parating ganun. May mga time din na mananalo tayo pero by close fight at kailangan alam natin yun na kasama sa boxing yun. Hindi lahat ng panalo ko madadali," he told ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda."
(Maybe some of our countrymen are used to victories that are one-sided. Of course that won't happen all the time. There will be times when we win but it will be a close fight and that's part of boxing. Not all of my victories are easy.)
Pacquiao said he didn't expect Marquez to keep moving backwards during the bout, waiting for the attack so he could counterpunch.
Persistent leg cramps also hindered the Filipino boxer's movement during the match. He said the cramps started early in the bout and worsened starting in the 4th round.
"I was out of balance because my old illness, leg cramps, came back. My in and out, my footwork was gone. I am not sure, maybe it is over training. I trained 10 weeks for this fight. In my other bouts, I only trained 8 weeks," he said in Tagalog.
Despite the difficulties, the boxing champ said he still believes he won the fight after watching a replay of the match.
He said he did not immediately raise his hand after the fight because he went to his corner to pray, as is his usual custom after every bout.
Pacquiao said he is willing to give Marquez a rematch anytime but will not challenge the Mexican after defeating him in their last 2 bouts.
"Gusto ko pa rin makalaban kung gusto niya...Pangit naman kung ako pa ang maghamon," he said.
He added that he would be willing to face undefeated boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr., hopefully by May 2012.
Boos are new to Pacquiao
Meanwhile, a report from ABS-CBN correspondent Dyan Castillejo said Pacquiao was clearly affected by the boos of Mexican fans who believed Marquez won the bout. "It's not the way he wanted to win. He's definitely not used to that. It's a different feeling for him," she said.
She said the boxer confided that his timing was off because of cramps on his left leg "in the shin area." Even coach Freddie Roach said the Pinoy boxer did not have the best night in the ring.
Nevertheless, Pacquiao said he won because he had the more solid punches and telling blows as shown in the Compubox statistics.
Castillejo said Pacquiao skipped the usual post-fight revelry since he had to get 28 stitches on a deep cut on the forehead.
She said the boxer had a lot of time alone reading the bible, praying and spending time with wife, Jinkee. The boxer also heard Mass after the fight.

Manny pahinga lang, 'wag intindihin ang mga naiingit nayan!!!
Isipin mo nalang na dinaya kana, nanalo ka pa. :)
Mabuhay ka, MANNY!!!!
Correct not every victory is lopsided. . .but. . .
Not every victory is lopsided. Agree.
But we are not the one who predicted a 6 round stoppage.
We are not the one who announced that JMM's bulk and age will slow him down.
We are not the one who announce that the third fight will erase all doubts.
As far as I remember those pronouncements came from TEAM PACQUIAO.
Sorry if we are so naive to believe the experts. . .
Oh really.., pacquiao did really won?
Oh really.., pacquiao did really won?
1. Because of aggressiveness ??? And what kind of “EFFECTIVE aggressiveness” according to the boxing scoring criteria ???
2. “Ring Generalship”??? Wake-up. the promising noble-politician over-hyped hero was more like a DESPERATE MADMAN stalking on an underrated opponent !
3. “Power Punches” ??? So where were the Quality (power) of his punches that shook marquez, they were rather instead more of QUANTITY of missed punches, a no-good for scoring. CompuBox, CompuBox, CompuBox… (and tell me, WHAT/who enconded for this un-official tally system?)
4. “Defense” ? We might should remove this criteria to please ourselves.
And tell me, why did mayweather, a CLASSIC COUNTER-PUNCHER defeated De la hoya though mayweather even took so many hits? that match, by the way, was closer to De la Hoya’s natural middleweight class that you could almost no longer recognize the opponent (mayweather) because he severely bulked-up. And but you will say now it was rather a fixed fight with all your boxing expertise rationales?
And may God bless us, proud, truly-intelligent, truly-brave Filipinos.
Guys, which do you think will
Guys, which do you think will happen first, Pacquiao-Mayweather or Pacquiao-Marquez 4? Which do you like to see first?
PACMAN WAS THE CLEAR WINNER..
I am not a boxing expert and perhaps will never be but i watched the fight for the 3rd time, it was clear to me that the judges made the right decision to award the fight to Pacman. The first time i watched the fight live i agreed to what people were saying that Marquez won the fight. The fight was very very close and people around the world was expecting too much from the champion. It was so frustrating that we did not see the pcquiao who fought DelaHoya, Cotto and Margarito.. We have a saying in filipino "Di araw araw ay pasko".. It was pretty obvious that pacman didn't foght the way he was but i clearly shows in the judges score cards and even with boxing expert's score card, Harold Ledermann that he won the fight.. Why? Coz Pacman was the aggressor the whole fight and Marquez was just counter punching though connecting but counter punching don't win championships.. You must have the ability to attack...
...Continuation
Marquez was just contented with his counter punching. Was that the only thing he can do? That was the only thing he did, waiting for Manny to hit and he will hit back.. for all those who were not convinced with the champ's win, watch the fight all over and over again and see for yourself who really the winner was.. For all Marquez's fans, stop whining! "Don't be a ghost who sees what he wants to see.." The fight was very close enough to divide the opinions of each and everyone who watched the fight and that was the truth. HIs corner made a mistake for making their boxer believe that he was way ahead of the score cards and that he was winning. How can he say that? He did not even see what's in the score cards.
Put them on your shoes
No need to apologise mate, you are still the champ.Sila kaya ang ilagay mo sa sapatos mo baka mataranta sila sa harap ni JMM.Just be a gladiator of the ALMIGHTY and not of those evils surrounding you who like to kill! and kill!! Start to clean the mess around you.Keep on smiling mate
MANNY PACQUIAO - WBO Welterweight Champion of the world!!!
It's so frustrating to watch the news, hear people talk negative about how they saw the match and to think they were all praises before the fight. Botttom line is, it doesn't help!!! The 3 professional judges, with their trained eye saw it the way they did. It is what it is! The challenger simply did not bring the fight to the champion, and instead back-pedalled his way to his perceived success. ... We should all know that this great guy was AGAIN alone standing up for all of us in the ring giving his blood and sweat so that we can all have something to celebrate AGAIN as one nation! Let's spread the love and hope there's a rematch this May 2012. So proud of you, Manny!!! And still the the WBO Welterweight Champion of the world, MANNY PACQUIAO!!!
Manny Pacquiao
This last fight definitely proved that you cannot serve two masters at the same time. Manny has lost his focus in boxing. He should either return his focus on boxing and abandon his political ambitions or sad to say, pursue his political ambitions and retire from boxing. He has nothing more to prove in boxing. Beat Mayweather? Mayweather is nothing. Mayweather can never equal Pacquiao's accomplishments. His zero loss record is just one of many boxers. His refusal to fight the best during his time will always put an asterisk on his record.
