Z Gorres still in critical condition in hospital ICU
But vital signs are reported to be stable
MANILA - ZC Oliveros "The Dream" Gorres reportedly remained in critical condition in a hospital in Las Vegas but has already turned stable on Sunday a day after undergoing an emergency surgery.
Michael Aldeguer, manager of Gorres, said the boxer remains in critical but stable condition at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
The Filipino underwent emergency brain surgery Saturday after suffering a subdural hematoma (blood clot in the brain) after he was knocked down in the 10th round of his fight with Luis Melendez at Mandalay Bay. Despite going down badly, Gorres was able to get up 30 seconds before the final bell rang and was declared winner via unanimous decision.
Gorres is reported to still remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and remains under close watch.
Vital signs though of Gorres are reportedly normal - blood pressure and heart rate.
Gorres reportedly remains unconscious but showed some signs of brain activity. When sedation was reportedly lessened, he reportedly reacted by attempting to take away the oxygen tubes that are attached to him.
A team of 8 doctors are reportedly looking after Gorres.
A second CT scan reportedly showed the swelling remains the same but the next 24 and 48 hours will reportedly be crucial.
Team Gorres had earlier asked for prayers for the 27-year-old boxer.
Wife worried
Aldeguer meanwhile is arranging for Gorres’s wife to fly to the US.
Duchess Gorres, the boxer’s wife, was reportedly worried over the condition of his husband.
She said that before the fight she even spoke with her husband who was excited at the bout.
Duchess said however that after the fight he did not receive a call from the boxer, which started to make her worry. She said she always calls her up or sends a text message after a bout and usually after he steps out of the boxing ring.
Duchess said that if it was only her decision she would not like her husband to return to the ring. She said what is more important is that her husband would be in good condition.
Meanwhile, People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao offered a prayer for the stricken boxer before his match with Miguel Cotto where he merged victorious via a technical knock out after the referee stopped the fight in the 12th round.
