Nutri-C scores second win, beats Oracare in WPBL
Nutri-C-Ateneo posted its second straight win in the Women's Philippine Basketball League (WPBL) scoring 59-58 over Oracare-College of St. Benilde Sunday at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.
The Lady Eagles used their height advantage to control the game early but had to weather off the late surge of Oracare to stay unbeaten in the 10-team field tournament aimed at raising awareness about women's basketball.
With Leonette Salvacion scoring 9 of her team-high 15 points in the fourth frame, Oracare rallied from an 11-point deficit to threaten Nutri-C twice but the Katipunan-based squad held its ground to stave off the upset bid of the Taft-based squad. Nutri-C-Ateneo also beat Sunkist-La Salle in the opener last week.
In other games, Smart Sports-University of the Philippines and Xtreme Philippine Women's Youth beat their respective rivals to jumpstart their title bids in the event last held in 1999.
