Sinag Pilipinas tops Group A in SEAG
MANILA, Philippines - Sinag Pilipinas is still undefeated in the basketball tournament of the 26th Southeast Asian Games, overcoming Thailand 103-69 to win their third straight game Wednesday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Sinag Pilipinas topped Group A with a 3-0 record, and gave Thailand their first loss of the tournament.
The Philippine team now has the momentum going into the medal round, where they may face Games host Indonesia or Malaysia.
Thailand was the first challenge for the Philippines in the tournament, as the team was more talented than either Cambodia or Vietnam, which Sinag Pilipinas defeated by over 50 points.
Sinag started the game slow, and Thailand was able to take the lead briefly in the middle of the first quarter.
But the Filipinos soon took control of the game as they got their running game going, with Kiefer Ravena, Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva combining to push Sinag ahead, 22-12.
Sinag blew the game wide open in the third quarter by repeatedly going to Slaughter in the post, and the big man was once again able to take advantage of the smaller Thailand frontline.
The Philippines held Thailand to only 39% shooting, and forced them to commit 21 turnovers. Thailand was unable to stop the Filipinos' offense, as Sinag made 65% of its field goal attempts.
Hodge topscored with 15 points, while Ravena (14), Salva (12), Slaughter (11), Chris Ellis (11), and Bobby Ray Parks (10) also scored in double figures.
