Cuban boxing champ wants Donaire
MANILA, Philippines – Another boxer seeks a fight against Filipino-American boxing champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. in 2012.
Guillermo Rigondeaux, a 2-time Olympic gold medalist from Cuba and the interim WBA junior featherweight champion of the world, is eyeing a possible clash against the Filipino Flash.
According to Rigondeaux’s boxing trainer, Ronnie Shields, the Cuban boxer is interested to fight Donaire at the junior featherweight level.
“I think Rigo is willing to meet him at 122 pounds because that’s a fight that he wants. He wants to fight the best guys out there,” Shields said in Examiner.com.
Rigondeaux has an upcoming fight against WBA’s full champion, Rico Ramos, late December.
Rigondeaux plans to take on Donaire in 2012.
Donaire recently defended his WBC and WBO bantamweight crowns by hammering a unanimous decision victory over Argentine’s Omar Narvaez last October.
Other boxers interested in fighting Donaire are Puerto Rico’s Juan Manuel Lopez and Mexico’s Jorge Arce.
