Hapee Toothpaste scored a 76-67 win over Toyota Otis during Tuesday’s second game action in the PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Roel Hugnatan led the Complete Protectors with 16 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
UST’s Jervy Cruz tallied 11 points and 15 rebounds that more than made up for the absence of 6’3” Dino Daa.
Hapee had to play without Daa, who sprained his ankle during the UAAP-NCAA All-Star Game.
"I think the absence of Dino is a big factor because he gives a lot intensity and hustle to the team but then again, it gave an opportunity for others to step up in his absence," said Hapee head coach Gee Abanilla.
Ely Olarte, a West Negros University standout, also made his presence felt for Hapee as he scored 11 points on a perfect 3-for-3 clip from the three-point arc, including a buzzer-beating triple that gave Hapee a 57-53 lead at the end of the third period.
Hapee was coming off an easy 91-76 win over Burger King last Saturday prior to their clash with Toyota.
Toyota, meanwhile, suffered its second straight loss since receiving a 77-65 beating from Magnolia Pure last Saturday.
