MANILA, Philippines — Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito was released from the Dallas Methodical Hospital on Wednesday (Thursday, in Manila) following a successful orbital bone operation.

As of posting time, he was headed back to Los Angeles, according to an Associated Press report. He was with his wife Michelle, trainer Robert Garcia, and co-managers Francisco Espinoza and Sergio Diaz

On Tuesday, Margarito underwent an operation after losing to Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao over the weekend.

Diaz later declared that Margarito’s fractured right orbital bone had been repaired, calling the operation “perfect (with) no complications of any kind.”

Margarito damaged his orbital bone during his 12-round bout with now World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight champion Pacquiao. He also sustained swollen eyes and cuts.

Following his loss, Margarito commended Pacquiao straight from his hospital bed.

"I gave it all I had but unfortunately, I was not able to get the victory over the best fighter in the world today. It was a tough and difficult fight for me,” he said.

At the urging of doctors who treated the boxer, the Tijuana Tornado was discouraged from attending the traditional post-fight press conference last Saturday night (Sunday, in Manila).

Margarito now has 7 losses, alongside his 38-win record. He is a former 3-time world champion, having won the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, and World Boxing Organization welterweight titles.
