Trainer says Marquez may fight Pacquiao in Texas

MANILA, Philippines - Mexican trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain believes that world lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is capable of fighting three or four more times before retiring from boxing.

Beristain was in Marquez' corner for the boxer's trilogy bout against his rival, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.

After losing that fight via a controversial majority decision, Marquez said he is contemplating retirement.

But Beristain said the Mexican boxer can still fight.

"He's able to continue if he chooses to do so. He is a great fighter and I want to convince him to continue in boxing," Beristain said in an interview with Boxing Scene.

At least one of those fights may be against Pacquiao as the Filipino boxer's promoter, Top Rank, is trying to put together a fourth fight between him and Marquez.

Beristain said, however, that if Marquez agrees to a fourth fight, it cannot be held in Las Vegas.

"I like the idea of the fight being in Texas," Beristain said. "The influence of some people won't play a role in the fight."

Beristain and Marquez both claimed that they have been robbed of the victory against Pacquiao, with the trainer calling the decision "a robbery of the utmost."

In a separate interview, Beristain said they are considering to take legal action against the judges.
