Bugsy player Chang wins All Japan crown
MANILA, Philippines – Jung-Lin Chang, a player from Bugsy International Promotions, cemented his status as world no. 1 after beating countryman Yang Ching-shun of Chinese-Taipei in the finals of the 45th All Japan Championship in Amagasaki, Japan last Sunday.
It was the second major title of the year for Chang after he also triumphed in the 2012 World 8-Ball Championships last February in the United Arab Emirates.
Chang went home with the top prize of $28,600, while Yang settled for $14,300.
"Jung-Lin Chang's wins proved once again Asia's supremacy in the world of pool," said sportsman/businessman Ceferino "Perry" Mariano, Chang's benefactor and the boss of Bugsy International.
Chang defeated Che-Wei Fu in the semi-finals, while Yang ousted Filipino bet Johann Chua.
In the women's division, Taiwan's Choi Chie Yu came out on top after besting compatriot Tan Ho Yun.
Filipinos who saw action in the All Japan Championship include Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Lee Vann Corteza, Antonio Lining, Jundel Mazon, Ramil Gallego, Carlo Biado, Mark Aristotle Mendoza, Elvis Perez and Dondon Razalan. By Marlon Bernardino.
