Pacquiao is sick of Marquez's whining
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao has grown tired of Juan Manuel Marquez’s repeated “robbery” claim that he is using this as a motivation in their December 8 clash.
Boxing trainer Freddie Roach pointed out that this was evident when Pacquiao himself declared that he wanted to finish Marquez next month.
The mild mannered-Pacquiao is known to avoid making knockout predictions prior to his fights.
But Roach told Bill Dwyre of the LA Times that during one of the Pacquiao-Marquez media-tour luncheons, the Filipino wrote on a tablecloth the words: "We've got to knock this guy out."
Pacquiao and Marquez already figured in three close bouts. He settled for a controversial draw despite knocking down Marquez thrice during their fight meeting in 2004. The Filipino boxer then won by points during their next two encounters in 2008 and 2011.
However, Marquez maintained that he has beaten Pacquiao thrice.
“He knows he hasn't beaten me decisively. And it's like a thorn in my side that I want to pull out,” he said in their HBO 24/7 preview.
Roach said he has been pushing Pacquiao in training to make sure that they avoid the mistakes in their past three Marquez fights.
He also prohibited the Filipino from playing basketball.
"I had a couple of tough guys in here from Russia to spar with him and he handled them. I made him quit playing basketball a month out, and he has. I worry about jammed fingers and sprained ankles," said Roach.
