MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is rushing improvements to the Rizal Memorial Stadium for the Azkals' possible home game in the coming 2012 Suzuki Cup.

Ebong Joson, PFF head of communications, said in Asean Football that they are seeking the approval of the Cup organizers that the home game would be allowed at the historic stadium in Manila.

In the 2010 edition of the Cup, the Azkals were forced to play their home leg in Jakarta after organizers found no suitable venue for the match in the Philippines.

“Approval is pending improvement of the pitch,” said Joson. “There are uneven sections that need to be addressed.”

The PFF is working with the stadium owner Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to speed up the repairs of the pitch.

“The PSC have, of course, agreed to fast track the work so that we can host the potential home games,” he added.

The Azkals have arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for the Cup.

They will face three-time champion Thailand in the November 24 opener.

This will be followed by a game against Vietnam on November 27 and a November 30 match against Myanmar.

The top two finishers of the group will advance to the home and away two-leg semifinals in December.
