Rousey likely to headline UFC fight card
MANILA, Philippines – The first female fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is likely to be featured in the main event when she debuts for the promotion next year.
UFC president Dana White said Ronda Rousey, Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, will headline one of their fight cards on her UFC debut.
"She's the champ," he said in MMA Fighting. "Unless there's a weight division higher than her that the champ would be defending the title, then yeah, she'd be the main event."
An Olympic bronze medalist in judo, the 25-year-old Rousey surged to MMA popularity through her methodical fighting style and good looks.
She was also nicknamed “Rowdy” for bringing in trash-talking to women’s MMA.
Although White said they still have no definite date yet for Rousey’s UFC debut, he said he’d like to see her fight in the UFC octagon as soon as possible.
