Philippine bantamweight Michael Domingo is set to fly back to Manila next week after his fight with Mexican Nestor Rocha was called off after the Filipino fighter tested positive for Hepatitis-B.
This was revealed by ALA Boxing's Michael Aldeguer in an interview over dzSR's "Sports Chat" program Friday morning.
“Michael is disappointed because he really prepared hard for this fight and was hoping this will be his stepping stone to a world title shot,” Aldeguer told program host Dennis Principe.
Aldeguer said the ALA ward underwent a test by the California boxing commission on Wednesday. Another test was done on Thursday.
The bout is scheduled Friday night at the Morongo Casino and because of result of the first exam, fight promoter Golden Boy Promotions decided to call it off without getting the outcome of the second test .
Based on the initial schedule, Domingo was supposed to stay in Las Vegas after the bout to continue training for a possible shot at a world crown.
Domingo, who holds a win-loss record of 37 and 14 with 16 victories via knockout, last fought against Ratanachai Sor Vorapin on September 14 this year at the Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City.
He scored a ninth round TKO in the 12-rounder for the WBO Oriental bantamweight belt.
