HANOI - Thailand’s Pravee Visalkit broke the course record with a seven-under-par 65 on Friday to take the halfway lead in the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam.

The unheralded golfer, one of an aspiring crop of young Thai professionals competing on the Mercedes-Benz Tour, hit eight birdies in a sparkling round at Van Tri Golf Club in Hanoi.

"That’s definitely my best round as a professional. I made one bogey and could not stop making birdies. I wish every day felt like that," said Pravee.

He started his round on the back nine with birdies on 11, 14, 15 and 17 to make the turn in four-under-par 32. His only dropped shot came at the third hole before he stormed home with three successive birdies from the fifth and he added another on his final hole.

He leads the 50,000 dollar event on five-under-par 139 by two strokes from the Filipino pair Orlan Sumcad and Marvin Dumandan.

Sumcad returned a 67 while Dumandan came in with a 69 on a day of low scores.

First round leader Felix Casas from the Philippines struggled in with a 73, in what is the penultimate event of the year on the Mercedes-Benz Tour.
