Pacquiao arrives in Manila
MANILA, Philippines (1st update) - Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and his wife, Jinkee, arrived in Manila around 8:30 a.m. Monday, a week after the fighting congressman defeated his rival Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.
The Pacquiaos left Los Angeles without much fanfare just before midnight last Saturday, avoiding the crowds by sneaking through a side door, away from the Philippine Airlines counter.
They postponed their return home for three days. Their flight, PAL flight 103, was also delayed by more than two hours. The Pacquiaos were greeted by their children and supporters in the arrival lobby of NAIA Terminal 2.
In a brief press conference, Pacquiao said he has not yet made any plans regarding a future fight.
"Wala pa tayong susunod na laban, balik tayo sa trabaho," he said.
He admitted that he was not satisfied with his performance against Marquez, but believed he was the rightful winner.
"Ang paniniwala ko, bago pa matapos ang 12 rounds ay lamang ako at panalo ako," Pacquiao said. "Yung iniisip ko na ibigay ko na magandang laban, hindi ko nagawa."
"Yung ine-expect ng mga tao, at ine-expect ko rin na maibigay sa mga tao, hindi nangyaring ganun," he said, adding that not every fight will be one-sided.
Pacquiao declined to comment on the arrest of former President and fellow congressman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, saying he will study the situation first before making a statement.
The Pacquiaos will attend mass at Quiapo Church later today. There will be no motorcade in Manila, but the local government of Sarangani province has prepared a hero's welcome for Pacquiao. -- From reports by Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News and Steve Angeles, ABS-CBN News North America.
