MANILA, Philippines – Undisputed UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre said the lessons that he picked from his loss to Matt Serra five years ago helped him survive the knockdown he sustained in his last bout.

St-Pierre was dominating Carlos Condit in last weekend’s UFC 154 when the latter caught him with a head kick in the 3rd round.

The French-Canadian fell down to the canvass but was still able to recover from the blow and secure a unanimous decision against Condit.

"Yes it was a similar experience [to the Serra fight]. When I got hit hard, sometimes before I was very proud guy, I try to give it back right away,” said St-Pierre during the post-fight press conference.

But St-Pierre said that his technical knockout loss to Serra taught him to become a more patient fighter.

“The experience I gained from a lot of all my fight allowed me to recompose, defend myself and when I got back I come back stronger. It's that experience that allowed me to survive, you know, and come back from that kick that I got hit with."

St-Pierre said his victory over Condit was special because it was his first fight since coming off a knee injury.
