Floyd will defeat Pacquiao easily, says Hatton

MANILA, Philippines - The RING's 2005 Fighter of the Year and retired British boxer Ricky Hatton understands the great demand for a mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, but says the actual fight will potentially be anti-climactic.

Hatton, who lost to Mayweather in 2007 and to Pacquiao in 2009, told Telegraph Sports that he is predicting a "wide points decision" for Mayweather should he ever fight the Filipino boxer.

"I know people really talk that fight up, and are really excited about it happening, but I actually think that though people are talking about it as one of the biggest fights of all time, it could actually be an anti-climax," Hatton said.

"It could be a wide points decision for Floyd over Manny," he added.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are both coming off controversial victories. Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz last September via a "legal sucker punch," while Pacquiao eked out a majority decision victory over rival Juan Manuel Marquez last November 12.

Pacquiao had trouble handling Marquez, who befuddled the Filipino with his counter-punching. This led Mayweather to claim that Pacquiao will have even more trouble with him, as he is a better counter-puncher than Marquez.

Hatton agrees with that assessment, saying "I thought Manny had problems with Marquez's style, and maybe he would always have problems with that style."

"Pacquiao is a pure fighter. On the strength of that contest and performance, it is hard to see how Manny would beat Floyd Mayweather if they actually meet in a ring," he added.

Hatton also said that he had Marquez winning the fight against Pacquiao.
