Tenorio, Williams step up their games
MANILA – LA Tenorio of the Alaska Aces and Kelly Williams of the Sta. Lucia Realtors were recently picked as PBA Co-Players of the Week because of their intensified hard court performance that resulted to their teams' victories last week.
The KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps chose Tenorio and Williams for top honors for their astounding performances from November 16 to November 22.
According to PBA.ph, Tenorio spurred the Aces in their wins over Talk 'N Text and Purefoods with averages of 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. His norms have improved to 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
“I don't think there is anybody at the point guard position who is playing better than LA at this point of the conference… He's doing everything you want from a point guard – defending, assisting, setting the tempo and leading the team,” said Alaska coach Tim Cone.
Comeback
Staging a big comeback in the Philippine Cup is Kelly Williams, who was sidelined by a blood disorder (immune thrombocytopenic purpura or ITP) in the previous Fiesta conference.
Williams averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in the Realtors’ triumphs over Barangay Ginebra and Barako Bull.
“Kelly has been working double time since he was allowed to play again and it's about time he gets recognition,” said Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez.
“I'm happy for him and I just hope he will continue to get healthy and stay in shape,” he added.
Williams, meanwhile, revealed that aside from his team’s motivation to win, another factor has been giving him inspiration. His wife, Erica, recently gave birth to their first child, Charlie Jermaine.
“I thank Jesus for it all. I am so blessed in so many ways. My son being born the night before [Ginebra game]certainly boosted my motivation. He has added excitement to my personal outlook of my career,” said Williams.
