Bates slowly getting back into PH sports scene
MANILA, Philippines -- Billy Ray Bates is slowly but surely getting himself back into Philippine sports' consciousness.
After coming back to the country to be inducted to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Hall of Fame, Bates has made it clear he wants to call the Philippines home, again.
Fortunately, the Asean Basketball League’s (ABL) Philippine Patriots tapped Bates to be their consultant and skills coach.
Since then, he has been a part of the team for their preparations for the next tournament as well as the team's outreach programs.
On Friday, Bates and the Patriots held another free basketball clinic for more than 200 kids from different communities in Quezon City.
Bates said it’s all about giving back to the community, and also teaching kids the fundamentals of basketball and improving their skills.
They aim to encourage the kids to continue to work hard not just in basketball but for any kid that can set their mind to their goals, they can go for it.
The Philippine Patriots will continue to have clinics during their off-season leading up to the opening of the next ABL season set to start in mid-January 2012.
