Oscar de la Hoya can do all the weight-loss training and trimming of excess pounds for the December 6 megabuck fight against Manny Pacquiao. In the end, his return to the 145-lb division would not matter at all.

"He's going to find out that it's going to take more than dieting down to a Twiggy-like 145 pounds to beat Manny," Freddoe Roach said in a report on Philboxing.com.

These were the words issuedby Roach, Pacquiao's chief trainer, less than two weeks before the epic battle between his ward and boxing's "Golden Boy" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Hall of Fame coach and trainer described the Filipino boxing icon as "no cream puff".

"He (Pacquiao) is looking forward to serving Oscar his just desserts at the MGM Grand on December 6," Roach added.

The trainer's statements were in reaction to reports that said de la Hoya beat up a "Carnegie Deli cheesecake" sent by Pacquiao for Thanksgiving Day.

"I'm not too surprised Oscar was able to whip the cheesecake, look at what he did to that French pastry Patrick Charpentier back in 1998. That's his specialty," said Roach.

The coach was referring to the battle between de la Hoya and the Frenchman who had an 11-win streak tucked in his belt prior to the match with the Golden Boy.

De la Hoya defeated Charpentier and effectively finished his career by a technical knockout. It was Charpentier's last career fight.

For weeks now, de la Hoya has shed excess pounds to be able to meet the weight limit that was agreed upon for his megabuck clash with Pacquiao.

The Filipino, who, according to reports has decided against fighting again in the 135-lb division, jumped two weight classes to meet de la Hoya.

Pacquiao won the WBC lightweight crown against David Diaz in June in Las Vegas.

De la Hoya, meanwhile, last fought at 147 lbs against Shane Mosley on June 17, 2000. He lost.

The Golden Boy currently holds a 39-5 win-loss record. He has 30 KO wins.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, carries a 47-3 slate with 35 KOs. Roy Medina, abs-cbnNEWS.com
