MANILA, Philippines – Jose Sulaiman, who has been ruling the World Boxing Council (WBC) for 37 years, is reportedly contemplating retirement.

According to Boxing Scene, the 81-year-old WBO president said he has spent most of his life in boxing and now wants to spend more time with his family.

"I am very tired. I've had 65 years in boxing. I'm looking at the possibility of not continuing. I really do not know what to do and I have a week to decide," said Sulaiman.

Under Sulaiman's tenure, the WBC instituted many regulations regarding boxers' safety including the reduction of world championship bouts from 15 rounds to 12, the official weigh-in 24 hours prior to each bout and the creation of intermediate weight divisions.

One of the leading candidates who can replace Sulaiman is his son, WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman.
