'Weight issue' fires up BJ Penn
MANILA, Philippines – Former mixed martial arts (MMA) champion BJ Penn said there are plenty of things that motivate him ahead of his bout with Rory MacDonald.
One of them, he said, was MacDonald’s claim that he was out of shape.
"That really lit a fire under my butt," Penn, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, said in MMA Fighting.
Penn was supposed to fight MacDonald in September, but the bout which was included in UFC on Fox 5, was moved to December.
Penn said this has given him plenty of time to bring himself back in fighting shape.
"I think I'm down under 10 percent [body fat] now. I'm ready to go. I'm expecting the best B.J. Penn that I've ever seen, so we'll just see how this all plays out."
