MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-British goal keeper Neil Etheridge is convinced the Philippine Azkals will beat Myanmar and move to the semifinal round of the 2012 Suzuki Cup.

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s TJ Manotoc, Etheridge said he'd love to be with his team mates while they take on the Myanmar White Angels on Friday.

However, due to his commitment with his European club, Fulham FC, he will not be able to participate in the Suzuki Cup.

“Of course, I'd love to be there and be a part of it but with my commitments here, I’m unable to attend,” said the 6’3” keeper.

But Etheridge said there is nothing to worry about since the team is doing very well in his absence.

“The boys have played really well and they deserve to be where they are, in all honesty,” he said.

Etheridge said Eduard Sacapaño, who took over his goal keeping duties, and the rest of the team, have what it takes to repeat the success they had in the 2010 edition of the Cup.

He said all the Azkals have to do is stick to their game plan.

“Just keep playing the same game they have been, stay within the same structure they've been doing the past couple months, if not year, and I know we will qualify, to be honest,” said Etheridge.

He also has great confidence in Sacapaño, who has developed into a much better keeper the past year.
“This is a great opportunity for him, and to be honest it’s shown in the last couple of games that he's good enough to take our place,” said Etheridge.
