Cardona bags 2nd PBA player of the week plum
MANILA – Mark Cardona of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters stood out once again in the PBA Philippine Cup as he advanced his team to victories last week.
Cardona averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in the Texters’ triumphs over Burger King Whoppers and Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings.
Such performance earned him the KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps' Player of the Week (POW) honor for the period of November 23 to 29.
According to PBA.ph, Cardona is the tournament's scoring leader with an average of 21 points per game.
“Happy po ako dahil kahit paano 6-3 (win-loss) ang team,” he said in the PBA online report. “Focus ko lang talaga manalo kami every game, mag-improve at ma-involve ko pa ang mga teammates ko.”
Cardona and Reynel Hugnatan of Alaska Aces were named Co-Players of the Week for Oct. 19 to 25.
Talk ‘N Text Coach Chot Reyes, for his part, commented on Cardona’s 2nd POW honor: “Winning POW honors is always a double-edged sword. It makes him a bigger target for opposing defenses, but also motivates him to up his game even more.”
