Pacquiao: Marquez is in for a big surprise
MANILA – Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao predicted that Juan Manuel Marquez will get the shock of his life when they collide for the fourth time this weekend.
Pacquiao said he’ll be unveiling a different version of himself at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, one that will puzzle Marquez.
The Filipino told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap that Marquez knows his fighting style so well, which is why he and his team will be changing tactics.
“I know he knows my style: in and out, in and out. But this time I'll change my style and be more aggressive,” said Pacquiao.
“He's gonna be surprised that I changed my style.”
Pacquiao’s best performance against Marquez was in 2004 when he decked the Mexican thrice in the first round.
Marquez, however, rallied in the succeeding rounds to pull off a draw.
A more refined Pacquiao was able to secure close decisions against the Mexican in 2008 and 2011.
But in those fights, Pacquiao looked very vulnerable to Marquez’s counterpunching techniques.
The Filipino said he plans to return to his aggressive ways to force Marquez in a toe-to-toe war.
Pacquiao said that if he gets the chance, he’ll knockout the Mexican.
“If he gives me a chance to finish the fight, why not? I mean, I'm not predicting I'm going to knock him out, but I'll do my best and get back the aggressiveness I had when I was 25 or 26 years old.”
