UFC 107: Mir eager to take on Kongo
MANILA, Philippines -- Former heavyweight champ Frank Mir thinks he won't have any problem tangling with French mixed martial artist (MMA) Cheick Kongo when they face in UFC 107 on Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee (Sunday in the Philippines).
"Kongo has too many holes in his game," said Mir in a UFC promotional video.
The former UFC champion said Kongo, who recently lost to Cain Velasquez in UFC 99, is overly reliant on his stand up game.
"He's the worst submission artist in the heavyweight division and I'm one of the best," said Mir.
The 30-year-old Nevadan hopes to improve his 12-4 win-loss record in order to have another shot at a UFC title. He lost to UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in July’s UFC 100.
"I'm on the top of the UFC food chain. I can be the champ again eventually," he added.
Kongo is not pleased with Mir's statements, saying that the former heavyweight champ has no clue on what going to him him when they meet inside the Octagon.
"Dude, be careful," said the Frenchman, who has compiled 24 wins against 5 loses. "I'm not you kid, I'm not your friend. I'm not your sparring partner... you're gonna see the difference."
UFC 107 also features UFC light heavyweight champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn against Diego Sanchez in the main fight.
Other matches featured in UFC 107 at the FedExForum include Jon Fitch vs Mike Pierce, Kenny “KenFlo” Florian vs Clay “The Carpenter” Guida, Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello vs Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve, Alan “The Talent” Belcher vs Wilson Gouveia, and Matt “Handsome” Wiman vs Shane “Sugar” Nelson.
