MANILA, Philippines – Although he’s on board for a fifth clash between his fighter Manny Pacquiao and Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez, boxing coach Freddie Roach said he wants the Filipino boxer to take a much deserved rest first.

Pacquiao had just absorbed a devastating knockout from Marquez over the weekend and Roach thinks that a return to the boxing ring in April or May next year may be too soon for the Filipino.

“April or May is way too soon,” Roach told The Philippine Star.

“We will sit down for the next decision. But in my opinion, I believe he (Pacquiao) should get some rest. Don’t rush it,” he added. “There are many things to talk about and many options to consider.”

Roach said Pacquiao will need to stay away from the fight game for at least nine months.

"You get hit with a shot like that and maybe you had a concussion. I wouldn’t be thinking of a fight until maybe September. That’s my idea of the soonest," he said.

Pacquiao, who returned to Manila on Wednesday, promised his fans a comeback following his sixth-round knockout loss.

The Filipino fighter also thanked his fans continued support despite his defeat.

"Babangon tayo ulit! Like what I said, we will rise again," said Pacquiao upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Pacquiao is scheduled to fly to General Santos City where a grand welcome awaits him on Friday.
