PNoy wishes Donaire well, offers advice
MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino wished Nonito Donaire Jr. well ahead of the Filipino boxer's title fight with Mexican Jorge Arce this weekend.
Aquino said he feels "an affinity" with Donaire who had dedicated his previous fights to Aquino's mother, former President Corazon Aquino.
"I really wish him well," he told reporters.
"He had yellow shorts, yellow boots, yellow gloves when my mother was sick. That's when he dedicated the fight. I really feel an affinity with him. I hope he really achieves his dreams."
Aquino hopes that Donaire will be able to discern when is the right time to hang up his gloves and not risk his health.
"Tapos, sana may target. 'I want to achieve blank, blank, blank.' Then after that, huwag nang isugal. Syempre when you're at the top, parang sabi nila 'pag artista ka… the skill is not in the acting itself but also knowing when to leave. So ma-achieve niya 'yun, he gets out of the game safely. He has the foundations of a good family. I really wish him to have all of those things. He really strikes me as somebody who has a good soul and a good spirit. He has provided a role model. But hopefully after he achieves his success, he's also of that mind when to step off."
