Floyd is better than Pacquiao, says Hatton
MANILA, Philippines – Retired British champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton said Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a much better boxer than Manny Pacquiao, stylistically speaking.
“Floyd is a thinking fighter, a very calculating fighter and quick,” Hatton said in Boxing Scene.
Hatton, who already fought both fighters, said Mayweather would win a tactical fight against Pacquiao if their super fight pushes through.
The former British champion said that although he likes Pacquiao, it’s not enough for the Filipino to upset a slick fighting boxer like Mayweather.
“I've always thought Floyd would win. I love Manny Pacquiao. I have more in common with Manny Pacquiao than Mayweather, but I have to give credit where credit is due. He's not on my Christmas card list [Mayweather] but I think he'll win.”
Hatton said he already picked Mayweather to win even before seeing Pacquiao's lackluster performance against Juan Manuel Marquez.
"The opinion has not changed. I love Manny Pacquiao, he's a nice guy. Mayweather is not up my street as a person, but credit where credit is due. I think he's an all-time great," said the Briton.
Ironically, Hatton lost to Pacquiao in 2009 after being knocked out cold in just 2 rounds.
In his 2007 battle against Mayweather, Hatton lasted 10 rounds before the fight was halted via technical knockout.
