Pacquiao's next foe known before Christmas
Mayweather not in Arum's list
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum said Manny Pacquiao's next assignment will be known next week.
That means Top Rank Inc. will be making an announcement on or before Christmas Day, which falls next Wednesday.
“We’re going to decide before Christmas,” the Top Rank CEO said in a report by Hustle Boss. “We’ll [know] who he’s going to fight.”
Pacquiao soundly defeated Mexican-American fighter Brandon Rios during their 12-round welterweight clash at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
Arum believes that the Filipino superstar will return to the ring on April 12 next year.
Pacquiao, however, won’t be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is balking at a possible clash with the Filipino.
The fighting congressman is expected to battle one of Top Rank’s welterweight kings: Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, or Ruslan Provodnikov.
Arum said they are going to make an “intelligent decision” based on the willingness of each fighter to fight Pacquiao and their pay-per-view appeal.
“We’re talking to the pay per view people,” he said. “Whatever makes the most sense.
“Whatever we decide, we’ll make an intelligent decision. And that’s who we’ll fight.”
Pacquiao has already fought Marquez four times with the Filipino losing their recent bout in December 2012. The Mexican vowed never to fight Pacquiao again.
The General Santos-born fighter also lost a controversial decision to Bradley in June 2012.
