MANILA, Philippines - International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Andre Berto is targeting big fights with pound-for-pound kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2012.

If Berto emerges triumphant against former World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Victor Ortiz in their February 2011 rematch, Berto said there will be no other options for him but a fight against two of the world's greatest fighters.

"I believe after this fight here, Mayweather and Pacquiao are pretty much going to be the only options," Berto said in an interview with Boxing Scene. "I just went through my whole career fighting all the best. I believe that's going to be the only route to go after this win."

Berto's promoter, Lou diBella, admitted that boxing fans will be more excited if Pacquiao and Mayweather finally end up fighting each other, but is not optimistic about the mega-fight taking place.

"There's good reason to think it (Pacquiao-Mayweather fight) may not happen," DiBella said.

If the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight does not push through, DiBella feels Berto will give either fighter a strong challenge.

"I can tell you right now there's no way in the world he'd have a bad fight with Floyd Mayweather, or a bad fight with Manny Pacquiao, or a bad fight with (former light welterweight champion) Amir Khan... There's no way in the world that he won't have exciting fights with those guys," Di Bella said.

But both Berto and DiBella insist they are not looking past Ortiz, the last man who faced Mayweather in the ring. Ortiz lost to Mayweather via a 4th round knockout, dropping his WBC welterweight championship in the process.

"All the focus is on Victor Ortiz right now," Berto said. "That's it. That's the only thing I'm worried about."

Berto and Ortiz engaged in a Fight of the Year candidate last April, a bout which saw both combatants hit the canvas at least once. Ortiz rallied from two knockdowns to earn a unanimous decision victory.

"The rematch is an opportunity for (Berto), in a match-up that can only be an exciting fight, with tremendous promotion behind it, including network TV promotion of premium cable programming," DiBella said.

"This is a great opportunity for Berto to assert himself as a challenge to Pacquiao, to Mayweather. And also, if he doesn't get those two guys, to build to a big match-up against a guy like Khan," he added.
