Floyd Sr. now wants to train Broner

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. has expressed an interest in working with Adrien “The Problem” Broner after the controversial boxer suffered the first loss of his professional career.

Argentine brawler Marcos Maidana knocked Broner down twice when they fought last weekend, and won via a wide unanimous decision.

It was a disappointing loss for the much-hyped Broner, who was being touted as a future boxing superstar and being compared to unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Sr., who returned to his son’s corner this year, told On the Ropes Boxing Radio that if Broner works with him, he can teach the young boxer how to back up his trash-talk with action.

“When Broner finally fought and the way he looked, you know, I’ll be honest – I want to train Broner and bring him back to the top,” said Floyd Sr.

“I will have a talk with Broner too, as well, if it happens,” he added. “I will have a talk with Broner too and let him now that all that mouth ain’t where it’s at. You don’t fight with your mouth. You fight with your legs, your feet, your hands and your mind.”

“I wanna talk to Broner as well as teach him, groom him, and show him how to be a real professional.”

Moreover, if Broner truly wants to fight like Floyd Jr., then the older Mayweather can teach him how to do so.

“Him and Floyd are two different entities,” Floyd Sr. said. “Him and Floyd are nothing alike, in no kind of way, in fighting or anything else.”

“I’d like to take Broner, and if he wants to fight like Floyd, I can teach him to fight that style and protect yourself at the same time – which, right now, he’s not doing,” he added.

The trainer pointed out that Maidana “kept hitting (Broner) with right hands and hooks and everything.”

“I can teach him everything,” said Floyd Sr. “I can teach him how to stop all of that, the same way I taught my son.”
