Condit warns MacDonald: I'm no BJ Penn

MANILA, Philippines – Former welterweight contender Carlos Condit gave a word of caution to Rory MacDonald whom he’ll be facing in a UFC rematch in March.

“I’m a different fighter,” Condit said in an interview with ESPN. “I’m a bigger, more physically imposing fighter. I’m in my prime right now. And I can’t say the same for BJ.”

Condit was referring to MacDonald’s manhandling of BJ Penn, who was crushed via a lopsided decision in UFC on FOX two weeks ago.

Condit himself is coming off a loss to now undisputed welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

But he said the St-Pierre fight showed what he’s really made of.

“I proved that I can compete with the best in the world,” Condit said. “I almost had the fight in the bag. With some adjustments and a few tweaks in my game, I’m going to be able to capitalize on those moments that I had in the last fight.”

MacDonald immediately called out Condit after winning over Penn, saying he wanted to ease the sting of his 2010 technical knockout defeat to Condit.

"I was humiliated and embarrassed after that fight," said MacDonald. "I think about that fight all the time. It haunts me, and I really need to get past that chapter in my life."

However, Condit said MacDonald is likely to suffer another beat down.

“I’m also fired up because I was called out on national television [by MacDonald],” Condit said. “I gave him the worst beating of his life. I beat the snot out of him.

“He can come up with all the excuses that he wants; he’s got to fight me again.”
