Unbeaten Rashad Evans stopped Forrest Griffin in the third round to win the world light heavyweight belt in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 92: The Ultimate 2008 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Evans caught a lazy kick in round three and snapped Griffin with a crisp right hand.

With Griffin on his back, Evans rained a barrage prompting the referee to stop the fight at 2:46.

“It was a great fight,” said in a report posted on UFC.com. “It took me a while to get warmed up, but I got there. I didn’t want to go in there with one mindset because sometimes when you do that, you get messed up.”

Evans, winner of The Ultimate Fighter’s second season, now has a record of 18-0-1.

Griffin, meanwhile, absorbed his fifth loss against 16 wins.

Mir halts Nogueira
Frank Mir, meanwhile, pounded Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira down the mat to become the interim UFC heavyweight champion after being sidelined for nearly two years.

Mir made his comeback official by unleashing a powerful left hook that flattened Nogueira.

He then launched a finisher to seal his win over the future hall of famer at 1:54 of round two.

Mir came back from a devastating motorcycle wreck in 2004 that broke his leg in two places and forced him out of commission for sometime.

With the win, Mir improved his record to 12-3 while Nogueira fell to 31-5-1.

Rampage gets his revenge
In the third fight, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson finally vindicated his first two losses against old nemesis Wanderlei Silva.

Jackson tagged Silva with a left hook that sent the Brazilian sprawling to the canvass in the first round.

The Memphis native then launched a couple of shots before the referee intervened to stop the fight 3:21.

Jackson ups his record to 29-7 while Silva fell s to 32-9-1. With a report from FightNews.com
