Floyd Sr. says Roach doesn't deserve awards
MANILA, Philippines -- Floyd Mayweather Sr. took another potshot at five-time Trainer of the Year and Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach, saying that the latter does not deserve the accolades given to him.
Mayweather earlier said that Roach was the reason Amir Khan lost in his junior welterweight title defense against Lamont Peterson last December 10.
"I've been telling y'all for a while that Freddie Roach ain't no (expletive) trainer," Mayweather told Boxing Talk, adding that he would have trained Khan differently.
"(Roach has) won all these awards all because he has all this politic (expletive) going on. Lil Floyd was the top pound-for-pound fighter for a long time, and nobody ever won an award for training him," he added.
"Why didn't my brother (Roger Mayweather) win an award for training my son?"
Mayweather added that Roach only taught Filipino boxing icon Pacquiao to "throw a straight left, and double hook."
"That is his whole day of training. He does it over and over again, and has nothing else," he said.
"If you are going to be fair, give another trainer a chance instead of giving it to this guy and the same fighter over and over," Mayweather added.
Roach was inducted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame before Pacquiao's trilogy bout against Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
