MANILA, Philippines – Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez refuted reports that negotiations are already ongoing for his rumored fifth fight with his rival Manny Pacquiao.

The 39-year-old Marquez, who stopped Pacquiao in Round 6 early this month, said he’s unsure if he’ll even continue boxing.

"I couldn't even tell you if I'm going to continue my career for one more fight, [because I don't know yet],” Marquez said in Boxing Scene.

The Mexican counterpuncher said that before he fought Pacquiao for the fourth time, he made a promise to his wife that he’ll be leaving the sport.

But after seeing a possible lucrative pay in a fifth Pacquiao fight, he admitted that he changed his mind.

“When I got back to Mexico, I mentioned to her that I wanted one more fight and she said no. But I'm still asking her to give me permission," Marquez said.

Boxing promoter Bob Arum believes that he can still arrange a fifth meeting between the two boxers.

Despite seeing the Filipino got knocked out in the fourth fight, he said fight fans have never seen the last of Pacquiao yet.

“No,” he earlier told TMZ Sports.

“Pacquiao is now in Israel (vacationing) and he’ll be coming back and I think we can do another fight with Juan Manuel Marquez,” said the Top Rank CEO.

Marquez’s wife, Erika, said a fifth fight between her husband and Pacquiao could only do damage to both fighters.

She added that she felt bad at the sight of Pacquiao’s wife crying while seeing the Filipino boxer down.

"When Juan fights, I suffer enough. In this fight [with Pacquiao] it was no exception,” she said in Boxing Scene.

“I was very [upset] when I saw Pacquiao's wife crying, desperate to climb into the ring. She feared the worst. I saw what she felt and I reflected, and understood her suffering. I felt her anguish when I saw that Pacquiao did not move and did not get up," said Marquez’s wife.

“What I want is for him (Marquez) to retire and to devote his time to enjoying his family.”
