Kevin Smith talks movies, comics in 24-hour 'Twitter-thon'
MANILA - US screenwriter and film director Kevin Smith held a 24-hour "Twitter-thon" on Labor Day and answered questions about his family, movies and comic books that he is currently working on.
Smith, who directed the movies "Chasing Amy", "Jersey Girl" and the two "Clerks" movies, gave short, self-deprecating responses to fans' questions on his Twitter page even as he promoted his upcoming book "Shooting the S**t with Kevin Smith" as well as his fall tour.
Asked how he felt about having 1.25 million Twitter followers, he replied: "Any time I start to get drunk with Twitter power/possibility, I remember that Kim Kardashian's got over two million followers. Tough, then, to take it seriously."
Smith warned fans early that he could be stoned throughout the "Twitter-thon" and described his get-up during the event as "The Tony Soprano" -- standard lay-around wooby-shorts, bathrobe (and) t-shirt. He also posted that he should get at least a t-shirt from the Guinness Book of World Records for conducting a 24-hour Twitter Q&A.
Some of the queries to Smith focused on movies. Smith said he liked the first "Godfather" movie than the second, described "The Cutting Edge" as a guilty pleasure skating rom-com (romance-comedy) and said "Jerry Maguire" is one of his all-time favorite chick flicks. He also said Pixar's "Up" was the best movie he had seen so far this year.
One question posed @Gabo_2408 asked: "Do you hate tim burton for the Superman thing?" Smith answered: "Not at all. I respect the s**t out of Tim, even if I don't dig every flick. Honestly: very few directors have as instantly-recognizable a style. Burton does. [Martin] Scorsese. Coens. [Sam] Raimi. That's a true artist: sig-style."
Asked why he walked away from the Green Hornet movie project which he scripted, Smith replied: "Wasn't confident enough to tackle it then. Wasn't ready to go 'big.'"
Smith said he used Avid Film Composer to edit and cut his movies since the movie "Chasing Amy."
On the subject of comic books, he said he still considers Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" as one of best graphic novels ever followed by Miller's "Batman: Year One." He said he also liked Miller's "Born Again" run on the Daredevil comic as well as the DD arcs written by Ann Nocenti and Brian Michael Bendis.
He also promoted his new miniseries "Batman: The Widening Gyre" from DC Comics.
Still, most of the queries asked Smith on just about anything. One question posted by @karawheeler read: "If there was a drink called 'the kevin smith' what would it be made out of?" Smith's reply? "All contents would come from the wife's body."
Another question from @mfburris read: "If there was a RoboCop musical which role would you play?" His answer: "The I'd-Buy-That-For-a-Dollar Guy."
Below are just some of the questions on Smith's Twitter-thon, with Smith's answers in red.

From @DrewPLP "What's your favorite Kubrick movie?" Probably THE SHINING. I know I should've went classier, but that flick holds up well.
From @redpuma "Do you think Disney will kill the amazingness of Marvel?" They didn't kill the amazingness of @MiramaxFilms back in the day.
From @loganwhocares "Were ever asked to appear or host SNL at any point in your career?" Nope. Don't think they like me over there. S'cool.
