(UPDATE) Pacquiao, Cotto fans cheer, jeer on the Internet

MANILA – Supporters of People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on Sunday turned to the Internet to both cheer the fighter they were rooting for and jeer his opponent.
Keywords like “Manny Pacquiao,” “Pacquiao vs Cotto,” “Pacquiao Cotto,” and “boxing” were included on Yahoo’s popular searches Sunday.
Various comments swamped social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook even before the Pacquiao-Cotto showdown started. At the fight’s conclusion, fans went wild and tweeted away their disbelief, excitement and joy over Pacman’s astonishing victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thousands also joined abs-cbnNEWS.com’s Pacquiao vs Cotto live chat, which opened 9 a.m. Sunday, where fans of both Pacquiao and Cotto voiced their predictions with regard to the outcome of the fight. As of 6 p.m., it has 41,856 readers, 1,917 comments and 1,500 tweets.
Prior to the fight, a chatter even declared that Cotto would win, “I swear.” Carlito Galaus countered that the fight would “be the end of Cotto's career!!!”
The voices of Cotto fans were quickly drowned out by the enormous fan base of the Filipino boxing icon, especially after referee Kenny Bayless stopped the already lopsided contest via technical knockout in Round 12.
AMalica tweeted: “had so much fun tonight! Pacquiao kicked ass. Whoop whoop to all the Filipinos.”
“Opponent cotto was lucky to be standing up. very badly cut and hurt. pacquiao tired but ok and will now sing in a victory concert! Hero! (sic),” WowPhilippines wrote.
Franz_fms said: “nervous but happy because pacquiao won again. grabe talaga 7 titles? Hahaha (sic).”
“Pacman is a beast. i don’t think Mayweather is up 2 par with him (sic),” wrote Kayyissoflyy, referring to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Cotto fan Hisgatasexxy conceded that it was a “fantastic fight between 2 amazing boxers. “
“Cotto, you'll always be our champ…. Congrats to Pacquiao,” Hisgatasexxy wrote.
It was indeed a fantastic fight that attracted millions of Filipinos here and abroad that
set aside their personal errands, sleep, or even work just to watch him knock down his opponents.
As one chatter admitted, he might be at his work but his mind was definitely on the Pacquiao-Cotto bout.
All in all, after the hype and eventually the victory, it could be said that “it’s [indeed a] mighty fine day to be Manny Pacquiao” as what nikkrtbockers tweeted.

During and hours after the fight, terms related to the Pacquiao-Cotto match were top trending topics on the microblogging site Twitter.
The terms "Manny Pacquiao," "Pacman," and "Cotto" were among the top 10 trending topics on the site Sunday afternoon, and well into the evening.
People on Facebook, meanwhile, were full of status updates related to the historic title fight.
