MANILA, Philippines – DZMM TeleRadyo’s “Pasada 630” anchor Karen Davila shared her thoughts on Canadian singer Justin Bieber, who mocked Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao on his Instagram account on Monday.
Speaking on her show on Tuesday, Davila said most Filipinos, including herself, were hurt because of the many Pacquiao memes going viral in the Internet.
“When you think about it, huwag mo isipin ang sarili mo na Manny Pacquiao fan. Kasi lahat tayo mahal natin si Manny Pacquiao eh. May punto si Justin Bieber. Ako naman ganito lang iyan. Boxing iyan eh. Siyempre 'yung mga natatalo, talagang you can make fun of them in social media. Affected lang tayo dahil it’s Manny Pacquiao. Mahal natin siya eh,” she said.
Davila said it just happened that Bieber is an avid fan of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But according to Davila, it is still within Bieber’s rights to air his opinion since the Internet is a free medium.
“Ang sinasabi ko parang ganito iyan -- tayong mga Pilipino, ang gawin niyo, unfollow Justin Bieber. Pero karapatan niya iyan. Social media is a free medium. I-unfollow nila,” she said.
Davila’s co-anchor Vic de leon Lima, on the other hand, refused to agree with some of her statements.
“I beg to disagree. You don’t have to make fun of someone who has fallen, somebody who has stumbled. Hindi mo dapat pagtawanan. What if we do that to Mayweather?” he asked.
