Dr. Jaime Cura: Aversion to 'Ondoy'-hit areas temporary

In a phone interview with ANC's Business Nightly, Dr. Jaime Cura, the president of the Chamber of Real Estate Builders and Association (CREBA) said aggregate demand for housing will continue to grow since the country's total housing backlog is "huge and urgent." Nonetheless, he acknowledged that there will be pockets of areas, such as those in higher, and perceived to be safer, places, where demand will spike. But these spikes will be temporary, just as the aversion towards areas that were inundated. He added that Tropical Storm 'Ondoy' has made some real estate developers rethink their plans, especially if their projects experienced 'Ondoy'-caused floods. If these developers are still in the conceptual stage, Cura said they are either adding more safety features or will put the project on hold for a while.
