On July 16, 1990, Baguio City suffered extensive damage as a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Luzon.
Former cook Pedrito Dy was then at the basement of the Hyatt Hotel when the building collapsed.
He and other employees were trapped.
They tried calling for help but no one could hear them.
"Sinubukan ko ng ihi kong inumin para matanggal lang uhaw ko. Sinahod ko sa kamay ko bago ko nilagay sa bunganga ko, sabi ko, 'bahala na,'" Dy shared.
After 15 days, the help Pedrito was praying for finally came.
Pedrito is among the quake survivors who took part in TV Patrol's memorial for the tragedy.
Sonia Roco, who was rescued from the collapsed Nevada Hotel, was also present.
Baguio officials recalled their experiences during the quake and how the city recovered.
The Balitandaan, which recounts the biggest news stories covered by TV Patrol in the last 25 years, was also launched by TV Patrol, together with Baguio City officials and the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group.
Pedrito's family was also among the beneficiaries of TV Patrol's project "Bente Singko Para sa Kabayan Ko."
They received a sari-sari store, eatery, and "loading" business.
Twenty-two years have passed but the memories of the devastating quake and the "bayanihan" spirit that enabled victims to move on remain. Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News07/17/2012 3:03 PM
