The first battle round of "The Voice of the Philippines" kicked off with a performance of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by siblings Guji and Grace Lorenzana and fresh graduate Tristhan Perfecto, who are all under the team of The Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap.
"The Voice" coaches Lea Salonga and Sarah Geronimo had mixed views about the performance.
"I have to say that as far as 'yung pagiging comfortable sa genre, pagiging comfortable sa performance, I'm gonna have to give it to Tristhan," Salonga said.
Geronimo, on the other hand, said: "Pareho sila, nakikita mo talaga 'yung work ng magkapatid na sina Guji and Grace. Nakita mo na talagang nag-enjoy sila, ang bawat isa. Kahit na alam kong kinakabahan kayo hindi niyo pinayagan 'yung kaba ninyo na ma-overcome 'yung ganda ng performance ninyo. So congratulations sa inyo... Kay Guji at Grace [ako]."
Journey frontman Arnel Pineda, who served as a guest adviser of Apl's team, also picked the Lorenzana siblings.
"I guess at this point na-exceed nila 'yung expectations ko. Kasi noong nagre-rehearse kami medyo... talagang tense sila. So ngayon nakita ko 'yung ano, they're so comfortable with what they're doing. Tapos 'yung enthusiasm nila to deliver, nandoon.
"Pero mas nagbigay ng delivery sa akin 'yung magkapatid."
But in the end, apl.de.ap decided that Perfecto stays in the competition.
"I just want to say to Grace, your transformation has reached, like, this new level. And ginulat mo ako. Guji is always... he's a performer. Tristhan naman, again, another amazing transformation. I mean, two days on stage, and I think you came out of your shell."
"I'm gonna pick... Tristhan," he added.
