“I therefore call on Diaz to issue a sincere public apology to the Cebuano people,” ani Del Mar sa kanyang talumpati.
Paglilinaw naman ni Diaz: “This is what I said. People should have the right to say or to answer… not people… the contestants to answer the question in whatever language they want to say it in. If they are Cebuanos, they can say it in Cebuano. I did not say that they don’t speak English.”
Nakahanap naman ng kakampi si Gloria sa tubong-Cebu na si Senator Serge Osmeña.
“Kawawa naman si Gloria. I’m a thousand percent sure she was misunderstood. Sabi po niya ‘pag komportable po kayo sa Tagalog, sa Cebuano, sa Ilonggo, sa Spanish, ‘yan ang gamitin ninyo. It’s impossible for Gloria to downgrade Cebuano, alam mo kung bakit? Boyfriend niya Cebuano e, 12 years na, my nephew,” ani Osmeña.

think before you speak
whether it was taken out of context or not, i think she should think before she says anything. in one way or another people from cebu or has an affinity for cebu would take that example offensively. ms. diaz, cebuanos are people who are proud of their heritage. we respect people, regardless of where they are from, within our country or from foreign lands. you did not have to emphasize your point by using cebuanos as your example. why should we apologize to a woman of such nature? what you said was derogatory and was surely taken out of context too by other people elsewhere, mistaking us, cebuanos, as idiots of some kind. OF WHICH WE ARE NOT. that is what you get when you test the patience of cebuanos.
A person with an evil heart will never change
Look at this bitch, she's got the nerve to instead demand apology from Cebuanos when she was the one who insulted the Cebuanos. She must really think lowly of Cebuanos or of other Visayans or Mindanaons if she thinks she can talk her way through. Gloria, you can twist your words as much as you can but every Cebuano knew about your intent. Everyone including you knew that Venus Raj is Bicolana yet you really went out of your way of using 'Cebuanos' as an example without regards. And maybe because of the decades of your false views of Cebuanos never got printed, you didn’t expect the consequences until the Cebuanos responded back. Dear old has-been Gloria, you're just digging a hole with your damage control, you should fire your P.R. consultant. Every time you open your mouth, the more you're getting yourself into trouble.
I think we should just stop hoping that she would apologize cuz she's not expressing any regrets about what she said and her hurtful intent. She's even fueling the fire by saying that it should be the Cebuanos that owes her the apology. I thought she was just by nature a mean person who never cares about looking down on people, she's actually an IDIOT as well and I don't think there is not much to expect from her anymore. A person with that kind of character will get her due in no time.
Let me give you a brief history lesson, remember the first time the Spaniards came to the Philippines, while the Spaniards were welcomed in Luzon since you guys are a sellout, it was the opposite in Cebu. To give you a benefit of the doubt and give you a chance to understand your predicament, learn the history and culture of the Cebuanos first (meaning, just those that are natives of Cebu and not the Visayanians in general) and you’ll understand why you’re in deep shit. Forget about the advice of the stupid Senator, that guy spent most of his life in Manila and was never recognized as a son of Cebu and he never won any local election here in Cebu. Ask Lito Osmena instead, he is considered the Father of Modern Cebu. Good luck.
Sen. Serge Osmena is the biggest sellout
Here comes another opportunistic politician who’s selling out the Cebuanos and out to score some political points. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Gloria Diaz’ statement was a slur to Cebuanos. They might think that Cebuanos are overreacting but you can’t blame the Cebuanos for reacting this way since these kind of discrimination stemmed from decades of discrimination from the Tagalogs , due mostly to this Centralized form of government. There is no other way to interpret her statement and she can twist the words as much as she can but there is no denying that it was the intent of her statement. Gloria, you knew that Venus Raj was a Bicolana and not a Cebuana yet you went out of your way to use Cebuanos as an example. And maybe because of decades of your view of Cebuanos that were never printed, you didn’t expect of the consequences until the Cebuanos responded back. And hey, it’s about time.
Senator, please stop this bs of doing damage control. Don’t worry, we Cebuanos don’t really expect much from you anyway to defend the mistreatment and slurring of Cebuanos since you were never and will never be a defender of Cebuanos. To all Cebuanos, do you even remember this guy doing anything for Cebu or promote Cebu? This guy has been living in Manila for most of his life and was never known to help Cebu other than his own self-interests, well nothing new for Filipino politicians anyway. The point is that it is enough that you’re not doing anything for Cebu, but don’t add insult to injury by defending Diaz of her treatment to Cebuanos. It’s enough that you don’t care about the Cebuanos, you don’t have to perpetuate this discrimination towards Cebuanos. Your actions or lack of actions bring shame to the Osmena legacy. Please be informed that you still got elected by the Cebuanos because of the high respect we have for your grandfather and your father, but please don’t destroy that image. To everyone, this guy is never even respected in Cebu , that’s why he lost in all those LOCAL elections he ran in this province. The only remaining Osmena that continued to provide a good image of Cebu is Lito Osmena. You Senator should start thinking about where you’re from and start thinking like a Cebuano.
Lastly, I want to clarify that I am defending Cebuanos, meaning I am just referring to natives of Cebu and not the neighboring Visayas and Mindanao provinces because most of them have already accepted the fact that they’re second class citizens. Other provinces know that it is only the Cebuanos that still resist the mandate to speak Tagalog and still resist the Manila imperialism.

Agreed!
I agreed the facts of your testaments. I am from Cebu too and graduated in USC, Talamban (Civil Engineering) and USJR (BS Philosophy & Psychology). You are right to resist the slur thrown at Cebuanos and I am as much as disappointed by these remarks made by those so-called perfectionists' stupid overviews as you are.
However, if you talked about integrity of Cebu and her residents and goodness in their hearts, speak professionally! Don't ever talk about other Visayan districts and areas comparing with us Cebuanos! And don't ever say that other parts of Visayas and Mindanao have already accepted that they are second class citizens because Cebuanos aren't that stupid and we are not racists nor perpetuating unprofessional remarks just as you did! You claimed to be Cebuano but you behave and you talk very un-Cebuano yourself!
Grow up and show to all Filipinos that we are proud of our origins and that we do not descriminate and call Visayans and Mindanaoans second class citizens! We are Cebuanos and WE DO NOT DO THAT TO OTHERS!
BE SMART... You countered Gloria Diaz for insulting us by using the "very" same language Gloria Diaz used... Now then, how are you different from Gloria Diaz herself if you have employed the same tactics that she did? You are not a Cebuano, I guess! You just adopted the Cebuano blood and culture but you didn't understand the roots of Cebuanos and the warmth of their culture!
Shame on you!

gloria
I guess Cong.del Mar misinterpreted Gloria's comment too ..what Gloria was saying was that a CONTESTANT might need an interpreter and answer in her own dialect so she can express freely her answer..filipinos are good in english BUT sometimes when ur already up on stage they got nervous ..and didn't get the qustion. So why she will apologize for something that doesn't need apologizing?
