'Main concern is OFWs' safety in Syria'
A Philippine embassy official believes the country will not support the UN Resolution calling for sanctions against Syria.
Charge d’ Affaires Olivia Palala explained with the thousands of Filipinos still in Syria, the country cannot afford to get on the bad side of the Syrian government.
“Our main concern, as the secretary of foreign affairs always emphasizes, is the safety of our Filipino nationals there and they're numbering about 9,000. We cannot afford to antagonize the Syrian government at this point in time. So we have adopted a policy of strategic silence. We just keep quiet about the whole thing,” Palala said.
Palala also said the Syrian government has been cooperating with the Philippine Embassy in its repatriation efforts. Dateline Philippines, July 21, 2012
