Disappearance of Pinoy seafarer in Spain puzzles wife
A Filipino seafarer who was set to return to the Philippines has gone missing.
Joy Basco said his husband Aaron, who works as a waiter for luxury cruise ship Liberty of the Sea in Spain, was supposed to go home to the Philippines after his contract had expired.
She said she last talked to Aaron on October 27 while the latter was checked-in at the Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel.
Aaron was supposed to leave for his connecting flight to Doha, Qatar the following day. However, Joy was surprised when she was informed by Qatar Airways that her husband did not use his ticket.
Joy also checked with the management of the hotel where Aaron stayed. The management confirmed that Aaron boarded an airport-bound shuttle bus.
She noted that her husband had never told her of any problem prior to his disappearance.
Joy has asked the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to find Aaron.
OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon said she has asked welfare officers in Spain to look for the missing seafarer.
The Associated Marine Officers and Seamen's Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), meanwhile, has also expressed concerned over the sudden disappearance of Aaron.
