'Martian pink' diamond sold at auction for $17.3 million
The biggest pink diamond ever to appear at an auction has been sold for $17.3 million or roughly P750 million.
Named “Martian pink” by legendary American jeweler Harry Winston, the diamond sold for a whopping $1.45 million per carat.
That’s a modest mansion per carat, meaning most people can’t even afford a millimeter of this gem.
Martian pink was sold after only six minutes of tense bidding in Hong Kong’s Christie’s auction, its price shooting up far beyond its expected $8- to $12-million value.
