'Miss Saigon auditions only lasted a minute'
MANILA, Philippines - Karylle and K-La Rivera revealed that their singing auditions in the West End revival of the hit musical "Miss Saigon" only lasted a minute.
Karylle said she was surprised by the speed of the auditions where talents had only a very short time to sing.
"When you enter, what song did you have prepared, sing it from this part to that part. So parang one minute and that's it. Maybe very short, very brief banter but that's it. Talagang you go in, you go out. You have to do it and make an impression," she said.
K-La said it was her first audition for an international play. Her own schedule to sing was at exactly 2:01 p.m.
"I thought '2:01? Why 2:01? Why not 2?' All of it was by the minute. Literally, you walked in and this is where you are going to begin your piece and then you just sing. You say your name and your age and you just sing," she said.
Karylle said the auditions made her proud to be Filipino since the West End production decided to go to the Philippines to pick their next Kim.
"More than anything, I felt proud not just because we're talented but because it means we have a good work ethic," she said.
